Armourlite/Isobrite Tritium watches from the USA
I’ve just added another gem to my collection of tritium-illuminated timepieces: the Afterburner Black variant of the Isobrite ISO3003. This limited-edition beast from Isobrite (a brand under ArmourLite) draws its inspiration from the ferocious twin afterburners of the F-22 Raptor fighter jet—not just in its sleek, flame-like design but in the sheer intensity of its glow. More about that later.
My take-
This is my second-largest Tritium watch, measuring 47mm. I have a 7+ inch wrist, so it’s not too large. The strap is a good 22mm wide, matching the watch well. It’s very light for its size. If I’m buying a polycarbonate watch, I want it to be light. It came with two very impressive watch bands.
Great straps! One very supple rubber band, and a single piece NATO style, which I also found to be of very good quality.
The tritium lume is quite impressive at night: people are going to notice this on your wrist if you wear it out in the dark. The crown is not a screwdown but has a double-gasket push-in with side shields.
I really like the dial on ths one. The trit tubes sit in raised containers giving it some nice 3-D relief. The watch face has some vertical striations giving the watch some real character.
I must mention the date complication. One of the better executions out there in a round raised window with above average visibility.
A super nice case and crystal. No faults whatsoever. Nice big fat tritium tubes!
If you are considering this watch, you must also check out the NITE HAWK Night Fall. They are very similar. Hint: The Hawk is a bit brighter.

Here are the key details and features:
Key Features
- Design & Purpose: Engineered as a limited-edition dive watch with a nod to military aviation, the Afterburner series captures the explosive power of jet exhaust in its bezel and marker shapes. The all-black dial and hands ensure minimal glare, making it ideal for tactical, outdoor, or underwater adventures where stealth and visibility are crucial.
- Case Material: Crafted from lightweight carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate for durability without the bulk—it’s tough enough for extreme conditions yet weighs in at a featherlight 3 ounces.
- Movement: Powered by a reliable Swiss-Made Ronda 715Li quartz caliber with hacking seconds, a date window, and a low-battery end-of-life (EOL) indicator for peace of mind during long hauls.
- Illumination: The star of the show—20 ultra-bright tritium gas tubes (from mb-microtec) that self-illuminate continuously for up to 50 years without needing light exposure. These are over twice as wide as standard Trigalite tubes, with a green glow on the ISO 3003 for maximum visibility in pitch-black conditions. Two more tritium markers on the bezel track indicate elapsed time, like a fiery trail.
- Crystal/Glass: Premium scratch-resistant sapphire with an anti-reflective coating, elevating this poly-case watch to luxury levels usually seen in high-end divers.
- Water Resistance: A robust 200 meters (660 feet), sealed with a double-gasket push-in crown flanked by protective side shields.
- Bezel: Unidirectional ratcheting diver’s bezel in black polycarbonate, complete with tritium pip markers for precise timing in the murk.
- Dial and Hands: Matte black dial with bold index markers, luminous hands, and a date at 3 o’clock—clean, no-nonsense readability.
- Strap: A supple black silicone band (22mm width) for comfort and quick drying, featuring a secure buckle; easily interchangeable with NATO or other tactical options.
- Dimensions: 47mm diameter x 14mm thick—bold presence on the wrist without overwhelming.

Pros and Cons of the Isobrite 3003 Afterburner Watch
Based on user experiences and expert reviews of this model and similar Isobrite watches, here’s a breakdown:
| Aspect | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Illumination & Readability | Seen as pricey for a “plastic” case compared to cheaper T25 alternatives. | It can be overly bright in pitch-black environments. Is that really a con? |
| Build & Durability | Lightweight (under 3 oz) yet tough polycarbonate case resists impacts, corrosion, and scratches better than coated steel; sapphire crystal holds up to heavy abuse (e.g., diving, biking, shooting) with no marks after years; 200m WR with double-gasket crown and secure bezel. | Seen as pricey for a “plastic” case compared to cheaper T25 alternatives, isolated reports of poor warranty communication and repair delays (e.g., 3+ months for auto models, though quartz is more reliable). |
| Comfort & Wearability | Feels virtually weightless despite 47mm size; short lugs and pliable silicone/NATO straps (included) ensure all-day comfort without fatigue; easy to wear on various wrist sizes for active use. | Oversized for smaller wrists (e.g., 6.5″); strap swapping is fiddly due to low lug clearance and tight fit; hardware (e.g., buckles) may not match the matte black case aesthetically. |
| Movement & Features | Reliable Swiss quartz with 10-year lithium battery minimizes servicing; accurate (±1 sec/week); date window, low-battery indicator, and 24-hour bezel with tritium pips add utility. | Date window awkwardly placed at 4:30 (not traditional 3 o’clock); no day complication or advanced features like chronograph. |
| Value & Support | Strong feature set (tritium, sapphire, long battery) at ~$500 justifies price over similar tactical watches; includes spare strap and travel case; 2-year warranty generally honored well. | Seen as pricey for a “plastic” case compared to cheaper T25 alternatives, isolated reports of poor warranty communication and repair delays (e.g., 3+ months for auto models, though quartz is more reliable). |
Overall, this watch excels as a rugged, low-maintenance tool for outdoor, military, or diving enthusiasts prioritizing tritium glow and toughness. Still, its size and brightness may not suit everyone for daily or formal wear. User satisfaction is high for durability in extreme conditions, with few widespread issues on quartz models like the ISO3003.
